If you're interested in exploring the history of the Vietnam War, the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) tour is an excellent choice. This full-day excursion from Hue City offers insights into the Vietnamese struggle for independence.
Along Highway One, you'll visit significant sites such as the Highway of Horror, Quang Tri Citadel, and Ai Tu Airfield before reaching the DMZ, a crucial strategic area during the war. Explore historic battle sites including the Khe Sanh Combat Base, Hien Luong Bridge, and Vinh Moc Tunnels, gaining a deeper understanding of the war's impact.
The Hue to DMZ Day Tour: Vinh Moc Tunnel & Khe Sanh Combat Base is a profound historical expedition into the heart of the 17th Parallel. This tour takes you beyond the imperial splendor of Hue and into the "De-Militarized Zone" (DMZ)—the most heavily bombed region in history. This itinerary is designed for those who seek to understand the sheer grit of the human spirit and the tactical complexities of the Vietnam War.
Spanning the rugged landscapes of Quang Tri province, you will traverse the iconic Hien Luong Bridge, explore the civilian sanctuary of the Vinh Moc Tunnels, and stand on the hallowed ground of the Khe Sanh Combat Base. It is a poignant, educational, and deeply moving journey that serves as a tribute to the resilience of those who lived through the conflict.
Hien Luong Bridge & Ben Hai River
Stand at the physical divide that once split a nation in two. The Hien Luong Bridge, painted in two symbolic colors, spans the Ben Hai River at the 17th Parallel. Visit the Flag Tower and the Museum of the 17th Parallel to see the artifacts of "border diplomacy" and the propaganda wars that defined the era of division.
Vinh Moc Tunnels: The Subterranean Village
Unlike the military-focused Cu Chi Tunnels, Vinh Moc was a civilian sanctuary. Explore this incredible three-level underground network where 60 families lived, worked, and even gave birth during the height of the bombing raids. Walking through these cool, limestone-hewn passages provides a visceral understanding of civilian survival under extraordinary pressure.
Khe Sanh Combat Base: The "Hill Fights"
Journey west along Highway 9 to the remote mountain plateau of Khe Sanh. Once the site of one of the most controversial and intense sieges of the war, the base is now a peaceful memorial. See the remains of the airfield, captured American tanks, aircraft, and a museum that chronicles the 77-day battle that gripped the world's attention in 1968.
The Rockpile & Dakrong Bridge
As you navigate the DMZ, you will pass The Rockpile, a solitary karst peak used as a strategic American observation post. You will also cross the Dakrong Bridge, a key point on the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail, offering a glimpse into the logistical genius that powered the northern forces.

Is the drive from Hue very long? Yes, it is a full day of travel (approx. 200km total). However, we break up the journey with frequent stops at significant landmarks to ensure the experience is engaging rather than tiring.
Are the Vinh Moc Tunnels claustrophobic? Vinh Moc is much roomier than the Cu Chi Tunnels near Saigon; most people can walk through them upright. However, they are still enclosed spaces. If you prefer, you can explore the surface museum and bunkers instead.
What is the food like in Quang Tri? We serve a hearty, local Vietnamese lunch. If you have specific dietary needs, please let us know in advance so we can coordinate with the local restaurant.
